A LOCAL security guards firm says it never demanded payment for parking at one of the city flats and a row with tenants only started when one of its guards was attacked while demanding to be shown parking disks.
The incident happened at Alderbury Flat in Harare.
Agisent Security director, Mavuto Chiocha, told H-Metro:
“Our duty is to enforce rules and laws given by premise owners and on the day in question four tenants failed to produce their parking discs leading to the fracas,” said Mavuto.
“We never received any money for parking space from any tenant and we have no such powers besides providing security and enforcing rules and laws given to us.
“The tenants attacked our guard and he fled.
“We engaged the police and order was restored but they had already destroyed the gate and one of these rowdy tenants had clashed with our guard over turning her apartment into a brothel.
“Our guard denied the hired clients access to the flat and she decided to incite others into fighting our guard,” he said.
Alderbury tenants are yet to hold a meeting over the latest order to pay US$10 for vehicle parking space.
