A SECURITY guard based at Jena Mine in Kwekwe has been arrested for shooting at his ex-wife’s husband following a dispute, police confirmed.
Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the arrest of Phineas Chiruvigwa, 36.
“On January 17 this year at around 8PM, Chiruvigwa arrived from Kwekwe at Nqayezwe Ncube’s homestead in Kennelworth, Inyathi, armed with a pistol following up on his wife Prudence Mabhena, 22, who is now married to Ncube.”
Asst Insp Makonese said Chiruvigwa demanded to see Mabhena but she refused.
She said Ncube, 21, then left his bedroom hut to meet Chiruvigwa and discovered that he was armed with a pistol.
“Ncube dived and got hold of Chiruvigwa and they started wrestling as he tried to disarm him while he shouted for help,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said when Chiruvigwa freed himself from Ncube’s grip, he shot at him but missed.
“Ncube then fled the scene and came back in the company of his neighbour Manfred Chuma of Stand number 4, village 3, Lukona area, Inyathi and they managed to disarm Chiruvigwa who ran away and went to the police at Kennelworth police base and made a report that he had been assaulted by the duo. Police attended the scene leading to the arrest of Chiruvigwa for attempted murder,” Asst Insp Makonese said.
She said police recovered the pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
