TWO security guards yesterday exchanged fire with eight armed robbers at a fuel service station in Mabvuku.
The two guards stationed at Petrotrade service station were on duty at around 2am when they saw eight men approaching the service station from the southern side.
One of the armed robbers leading the group was armed with an unidentified pistol.
One of the guards discovered that they were robbers and he fired two shots at them and they dispersed running towards Mabvuku Drive.
A few minutes later, the robbers reportedly regrouped and came back to the service station entrance.
One of the robbers, who was armed with a pistol, fired one shot towards the service station.
The security guards who were now at a distance from the service station, returned fire, by firing one shot and the robbers fled south, after firing two more shots.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery case in Mabvuku.
“Two security guards at a service station were reported to have exchanged gun shots with armed robbers.
“No one sustained any injuries and the robbers failed to get anything,” said Insp Chakanza.
