Lazarus Dokora, who was the guest of honour.
The US$ 7 000 tournament will see 14 teams, which were placed in two groups, competing.
Dokora hailed Seed-Co for bankrolling the tournament.
“I am happy with what this well-known seed house, well known for its vibrant social responsibility to all sectors of education system from primary to tertiary levels, has done,” Dokora said.
“Today we are gathered here to witness another social responsibility which will promote soccer talent. The tournament will go a long way in improving the lives of schoolchildren from different districts and keep the boys busy,” said Dokora.
Seed-Co managing director, Denias Zaranyika, said they will continue to support different sporting disciplines.
“As part of our social responsibility we have sponsored athletics through Steven Muzhingi, volleyball through Chisipite High School, rugby through the Zimbabwe Under-20 team, and currently the Mhondoro soccer tournament. We will be sponsoring 14 soccer teams to empower local talent as we have seen stars coming from different parts of the country. We have a vision to see successful soccer players rising from this part of the country as the tournament will be played for at least a decade.
The players should not look down upon the humble beginnings as these are just stepping stones to a bright future,” Zaranyika said.
