There were fireworks at Mbare Netball Complex last Saturday night as legendary dancehall chanter Tawanda “Seh Calaz” Mumanyi turned 25.
The dancehall star celebrated his birthday in style at a fully packed venue.
“We are all here gathered to celebrate the birthday of one of our own, a brother and a friend, so let’s enjoy and celebrate with him,” said Gerry B, fellow chanter.
Seh Calaz’s entrance to the stage was welcomed by his fans with wild screams and whistling.
Seh Calaz showed his lyrical prowess and exhibited an energetic performance on most of his songs to the satisfaction of the crowd as they sang and danced along.
Show co-organisers, Shepherd Wilo said the show was a success.
“We were looking forward to having many fans, but the number continued to swell to an extent that the ground was full to capacity and moving space was minimum. In short, what I can say is the show was oversubscribed and we would like to thank all those who came to celebrate with us.”
The show was hyped up by the presence of different Zim Dancehall artistes with the most impact coming from Killer T whose performance was a cut above the rest with fans repeatedly calling for an encore. The fast chanter proved to be the best and on top of the game when he dished songs from latest offering “Ngoma Ndaimba” much to the delight of an appreciating crowd.
Other artistes who were present included veterans Shinsoman and Freeman as well as Hwindi President, Ras Prince, Ras Princess, and DJs from the popular Judgment yard Family
The birthday bash also doubled as a farewell gig for Seh Calaz who is set to leave for the United Kingdom today. “Seh Calaz is leaving for UK on Monday where he is scheduled to perform before he heads to Cape Town where he will join Charley Black on 31July.
