The death toll from the accident involving two commuter omnibuses which collided at the intersection of Seke and St Patrick’s roads in Hatfield on August 13, has now risen to seven after four other victims died between August 16 and 18 while admitted at local hospitals.
Initially, three people had died on the spot, while 32 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace carrying 15 passengers side-swiped a Mazda Bongo Van with four passengers on board at around 6.45 am.
Subsequently, the Toyota Hiace collided head-on, with a Nissan Caravan carrying 18 passengers.
The four who died later are Lucky Gwangwanza (age not given), Andrew Chikwanda (38), Tafadzwa Sibanda (29) and Michael Manyanga (49).
Last week, police released the names of the first three victims Wayne Chipuriro (42), Pecking Feliati (40), and Christable Makwanya (32) after they were identified by their next of kin.
The injured victims were admitted to Chitungwiza Central Hospital and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they will issue a comprehensive statement on the case.
