TRADITIONAL healer, Sekuru Kamwelo Banda, has slammed the spirit of suicide among married couples urging them to seek professional help whenever they encounter marital problems.
He said many couples have lost respect for the marriage institution by engaging in adulterous affairs thereby pushing their partners to the edge of suicide.
In an interview with H-Metro, Sekuru Banda, urged married couples to tolerate each other and uphold cultural values.
“We have to agree that suicide has no place in our society and whatever we may go through, no one should end his or her life or cause another person to die.
“As a traditional leader, I am disturbed by the rate at which married couples are divorcing and choosing suicide, just because they’ve failed to talk through their problems with their partner.
“I urge everyone to find help, talk to someone and solve any marital problem.
“Mubhaibheri chaimo zvekuzviuraya zvakarambwa, saka tiri kuti ngatiwaneyi wekutaura naye tisarega mweya wekuzviuraya uyu watibata uchiramba uchiti pedza,”said Sekuru Banda.
He also urged young people to be mindful of their mental health.
“We are losing a lot of young people just because they failed to cope with their problems, this should never trouble anyone because we have people we should talk to according to our culture.
“Again, we urge parents and guardians to pay attention with their kids to help them avoid entertaining suicidal thoughts,” he said.
Recently, a ZRP School Upper Sixth student and a Form pupil in Bulawayo committed suicide by hanging.
The ZRP student was facing a disciplinary hearing while police are still investigating circumstances behind the girl’s death.
