A POPULAR Chitungwiza sangoma claims he has lost more than US$10 000 in a week to people who fleece his “clients” claiming they are acting on his behalf.
Sekuru Amos Kafera – popularly known as Sekuru Kafera – who is into goblin trading said he received many people at his shrine claiming they have sent him cash as “booking fees” for his services prior to their coming.
Sekuru Kafera openly sells goblins and luck charms for fees; US$550, US$1500 and US$2500.
“There are people who are using my good name to rob people. I have lost at least US$10 000.
“My business has been put in disrepute by these people,” claimed Sekuru Kafera.
Just this past week, he said, at least ten different people came to him claiming that they have transferred booking fees for his services.
When the media crew visited the shrine, there was one Amos Petros, a young man in his mid-30s, an artisanal miner who had fallen victim to the fraudsters and had traveled from Jumbo mine in Mazowe for Sekuru Kafera’s services.
Sekuru Kafera said the culprits used five different numbers pretending to be his aides, with one identified as Steven Tasa or Enock Mugondi (0785 316964), having fleeced many people.
He said he doesn’t demand anyone to pay for bookings.
Petros said: “I made contact with the person who had posted an advert on Social media. He instructed me to do the booking by transferring US$550 through mobile money transfers but he gave me the actual physical address for Sekuru Kafera.
“It was after arriving here that I realised that I have been conned because the number used by sekuru is different from the one which I was using.”.
The funds fleeced ranges between US$500 to US$2000 from each victim.
Sekuru Kafera gave a chilling warning to people who are misusing his name on social media platforms.
He said he made a police report at Chitungwiza town centre under RRB 5546260 but said his powers will also do the job and they will come to apologize to him.
He said publicising the matter is just a warning to the culprits.
However, Sekuru Kafera promised to give whatever Petros wants including even the bus fare to return to his place, assuring him that all his wishes shall be fulfilled and will thank him later.
He claims his goblins and lucky charms can make people rich.
Sekuru Kafera claimed that even pastors and prophets – from local and abroad, flock to his shrine for juju powers along with “slay queens” who are looking for big shots and riches.
Deputy provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova confirmed the report.
“There is a report at ZRP Chitungwiza in that regard.
“The investigations are underway, once the culprits are caught, the law will take its course.”
