IN a vibrant celebration of Africa’s rich musical tapestry and cultural pride, AFRO-fusion DJ and promoter Selekta Base recently concluded a sold-out UK tour that did more than entertain.
It united.
From Birmingham to Winchester and Leeds, the tour was a testament to the rising influence of African music and the sense of community it continues to foster across borders.
Rather than just a string of concerts, the tour served as a mobile cultural festival, with each city stop blending music, heritage and cross-cultural appreciation.
It kicked off on 24 May in Birmingham with a packed crowd at the “1st King of Clubs” event, where Zimbabwean megastar Jah Prayzah joined Skelekta Base for a night that pulsated with Afrobeat, Amapiano, Zimdancehall, and dancehall rhythms.
The venue reached maximum capacity, reflecting the overwhelming demand for authentic African soundscapes on the UK night-life scene.
The following day showcased Selekta Base’s versatility and ambition.
In the afternoon, he headlined Africa Day celebrations in Petersfield, Winchester, hosted by Impala Butcheries at the Hampshire County Council Sportsground.
With a line-up that included South African socialite and DJ Cyan Boujee, as well as Zimbabwe’s Mashwede DJs — Golden Lady, Sady, Mike Kilah and DJ Deuce — the event served as both a music festival and a cultural gathering.
Audiences from various backgrounds came together, underscoring the UK’s growing appetite for Pan-African experiences.
Later that evening, the energy shifted north to Leeds, where Selekta Base anchored the Dunstable Family BBQ, a family-friendly event that transformed into an electric outdoor concert.
Hosted by King Alfred, it featured Zimdancehall stars — Templeman, DJ Fantan and Levels of Chillspot — and rising rapper Bazooka, blending community warmth with performance energy.
“What we witnessed was more than just entertainment – it was unity through rhythm, love, and identity. The support we received in every city confirms that African music is not just heard – it’s felt.”
This tour not only commemorated Africa Day with flair but also marked another milestone in Selekta Base’s mission to globalise African sound.
His UK run was more than a success — it was a movement, a sign of a global shift
With momentum at an all-time high, fans can expect more dynamic, cross-cultural experiences from Selekta Base as he continues to champion African artistry worldwide.
