IN recent seasons, Jarison Selemani has shown his star could shine brightest in the local league.
But FC Platinum’s performance in the league campaign this season will overshadow all the good work from Mandava.
That Scottland have taken the league title with two games to spare shows the ambitious Mabvuku side have not been pushed to the limit, with FC Platinum being one of the clubs that did not do enough.
Selemani is looking at the positives.
He reflects on the first clash against Scottland, when he showed the world the star that he is, and wonders what then went wrong.
“The turning point for me was the game against Scottland in Harare,” Selemani said.
“I came on as a sub and scored a brilliant goal. That gave me immense confidence because we were playing against top players.
To shine in that game was really a good thing for me.”
Selemani went on to score seven goals and provide eight assists, a season where he turned to be one of the most outstanding players under coach Norman Mapeza.
At that stage, his performances put him as a favourite candidate to make it among the top stars of the league.
He credited the technical team’s faith during challenging periods.
“The team helped me a lot. Sometimes things won’t go as planned, but with the technical staff we have, they kept on believing in me,” he said.
“They gave me all the necessary support I needed to continue doing good in each and every match.”
If there is one thing that affected him the most, it was the death of teammate Brian Banda.
“The biggest obstacle we faced was the loss of our brother, Brian Banda. It was difficult to accept, even now we still miss him on and off the field,” said Selemani.
“He was key in our team, so to adapt without him was a challenge, but we tried to push.”
Selemani has nothing but praise for coach Mapeza.
“He knew what I am capable of and emphasised working hard always. He keeps on encouraging me that practice makes perfect,” Selemani said.
“He has helped me in many ways. For example, perfecting my technique, being effective with the ball, maintaining discipline and helping the team to achieve goals.”
In their last two games, FC Platinum face Herentals and Dynamos.
