With his father away in Chigodora, a Mutare man has elevated himself to become the landlord and is now making endless demands for rentals from the family’s tenant.

This emerged at the Mutare Magistrates Civil Court as Emilia Chabonda was applying for a peace order against Admire Marezva.

Chabonda said has been peacefully staying at the Marezva home in Chisamba Singles, Sakubva, for 10 years until recently when Marezva surfaced.

“I have been staying at their house for 10 years, diligently paying my rentals. My stay there has the blessings of Marezva’s father who relocated to Chigodora.

“Marezva is now a big problem as he keeps on demanding rentals. What surprises me the most is that he travels all the way from Penhalonga to demand rentals, yet he is not my landlord.

“His father says he has not instructed him to collect the rentals. When I tell him that his father has instructed me not to give him any money, he shouts at me, accusing me of benefiting from his father’s property. He has since ordered me out of the house,” said Chabonda.

She also said Marezva has vandalised the house’s doors and windows.

“Each time he comes and I refuse to give him the money, he vandalises doors and windows. I am now afraid that he might harm me or my children,” said Chabonda.

“A fortnight ago, I made a police report against Marezva and he was arrested. Upon his release after paying a fine, he was at it again and his father advised me to apply for a peace order against him,” said Chabonda.

Marezva did not dispute any of the allegations and asked for forgiveness.

He told the court that his actions were influenced by his friends’ bad advice and drugs abuse.

“I just want to say I am sorry, please forgive me. I was under the influence of drugs and I got bad advice from my friends,” he said.

The peace order was granted in Chabonda’s favour.

Marezva was ordered not to approach the house that Chabonda is occupying.

He was also ordered not to disturb Chabonda’s peace, harass or threaten her.
