Self-proclaimed Prophet and congregants arrested over fatal exorcism

The Kwekwe police have apprehended a self-proclaimed prophet, Charity Mafirowanda, and eight of her congregants in connection with the death of Micky Chuma. The victim died on 18 June 2025 at a church shrine in Mbizo.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly administered a concoction to the victim in an attempt to exorcise evil spirits, which resulted in his death.

After the victim’s death, the suspects purportedly moved his body from the shrine to his residence, where they placed it on the bed and covered it with blankets in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The arrested individuals include: Charity Mafirowanda (46), Talent Khumalo (42), Bongani Paraffin (33), Admire Makota (23), Ronald Mandiedza (24), Margret Zireba (21), Lyton Ndlovu (19), Arnold Mashiri (23), Pauline Banda (33).
