adminSamuel Mauride (30) was sentenced to 16 years but three were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years. In passing the sentence, Harare magistrate Ms Fadzai Mthombeni said Mauride abused the trust of followers and his position of authority.
“The complainant was a child who could not make a decision of his own. He knew what he was told by the complainant were simple wet dreams. From the evidence against the accused, he had warts making or creating a possibility that he might have infected the child with a sexually transmitted infection,” she said.
Prosecutor Ms Valerie Ngoma proved that Mauride and the boy were not related.
On March 11 this year and at around 6pm, Mauride went to the boy and told him he wanted to perform a ritual that would cast away a spirit that had been intimate with him in his sleep.
At around 11pm, they slept together in the boy’s room before Mauride started masturbating him to obtain his semen which he said would assist in exorcising the evil spell.
The boy failed to ejaculate prompting Mauride to caress him before removing the minor’s shorts.
Mauride sodomised the boy without his consent before he ordered the minor to do the same to him. The boy fell asleep and notified relatives the following day who reported the case to the police leading to Mauride’s arrest.
