‘Selling IT security in Africa not easy’

Secure Lab’s observation follows that of Africa’s leading cellphone mobile network providers — MTN, who recently complained that majority South Africans purchase smartphones yet they don’t really enjoy full benefits of the gadgets for social networking, among others due to lack of their functions. As a result, MTN argues, such majority of smartphone customers end up using the gadgets for merely sending SMSes and taking of photos yet there were whole range of services to be utilised for social networking.

Responding to questions from CAJ News, Secure Lab Marketing and Online Manager, Dean Falcke, said marketing IT security always posed some challenges into various markets in Africa.
“It is more difficult selling a complex technological product into an economy that is still struggling with the basics of electricity generation, political instability and basic economic output.

“Marketing IT security products poses some challenges into various markets in Africa. For one, IT security products tend to require countries to have reached a certain level of economic and technological maturity,” Falcke said. — CAJ News.
