SELMOR Mtukudzi capped an eventful week with the launch of her new album titled “Selmor 4.0” held at Sherwood Golf Club last Saturday.
The launch, which coincided with her 40th birthday celebration, comes at a time when she is desperate to keep her father’s legacy alive.
Selmor told our sister paper, H-Metro, during the build up to the event that she has been bottling quit a lot of issues.
She vowed to share some of the intimate details in the new documentary.
The trailer of the documentary also raised the appeal of the album, her second after the death of Tuku.
Tuku died on January 23 2019 aged 66.
He was declared a national hero.
However, there were genuine fears that Tuku’s legacy would be interred with is remains.
This is the area where Selmor has made sure that she keeps her father’s spirit happy.
Away from the Pakare Paye inheritance issues, Selmor has managed to stick to her core business — music and more music.
The album carries eight tracks “Ndinotenda”, “Hamunyare”, “Mafungiro”, “Takabva Kare”, “Hosanna”, “Anoti Pwee” featuring Boss Gus, “Kumatenga” and “Murume Wangu”.
Selmor, who has been in the game close to 20 years, is one musician is not afraid to experiment with new sound.
She enjoys dropping party songs like “Nguva Yangu”, a club banger, which made her a household name.
A complete artistes in her own right, she has never abandoned her late father’s Katekwe beat.
In fact, Selmor has been experimenting further with the beat.
Last weekend, she left many in awe at the launch.
It’s a launch, which is set to remain engraved in the minds of many.
Tuku will be happy wherever he is as the legacy is in safe hands.
However, a lot has happened three years after Tuku’s death.
He was declared a nation hero and was buried at his rural home in Madziwa, Masholand Central province.
After his death, there has been this raging debate on who is better between Selmor and Samantha.
Musically, has been consistent.
To date, she has released two albums namely Dehwe reNzou in 2020 Selmor 4.0.
It coincided with her 40th birthday celebrations running through out the month of August.
She is set to unveil a no-holds-barred documentary, judging by its trailer released last week.
The trailer, which has become the talk of the Zimbabwean showbiz scene, has also diverted attention.
It tackles her relationship with his late father, contentious Tuku inherence will and the diva’s flaws as well as her relationship with Daisy Mtukudzi.
All this issues, will certainly generate a lot of debate among fans with some question the timing.
However, Selmor remains confident that this is the correct time for her to pour her heart out.
In her own admission, she can’t bottle these emotions for years.
She said documentary, will answer so many questions.
Musically, Selmor has shown that she has matured.
Last weekend, she demonstrated her maturity at Sherwood Golf Club.
She has vowed to focus on music and keep her father’s legacy alive.
However, only time will tell whether Tuku’s legacy is in safe hands.
For now, Tuku fans need to find comfort in Selmor who has demonstrated her capability despite facing numerous challenges as a female artiste.
Backed by her husband Tendayi Manatsa and a dynamic group, Selmor is simply doing her best to keep her father’s legacy intact.
She has vowed to defy odds and give both old and new fans of Tuku mature music.
Despite building her empire from scratch, she believes she will be rewarded for her efforts.
