SELMOR Mtukudzi has vowed to continue using her voice to end child marriages which have been on the increase in Zimbabwe.

Selmor said she would continue  promoting and supporting girls, within different communities, to reach their full potential.

Speaking during an indaba ahead of celebrations of the Day of the African Child yesterday, Selmor, who is also a mother, urged parents to avoid chasing away their young daughters when they fall pregnant.

“As mothers, we should learn to forgive our own daughters and try by all means to take care of the mother and baby.

“Protect your own than pushing them into situations that will harm them,” said the award-winning musician.

The artist urged men and young boys to abstain from sexual activities, or use protection, than ending up deserting young girls they impregnate.

“Why do you do the act (sleeping with young girls) when you know you can’t take the responsibility? Men, you should be responsible for your acts,” she said.

Selmor said artists play an important role as they are able to reach different spaces, through their work of art.

“I have worked with different artists, the likes of Yemi Alade, Victoria Kiman, among others, in fighting child marriages,” she said.

Selmor has been engaging and offering psychological and social support to victims of child marriages in different communities.
