Senior army officer wins farming award

Zimbabwe National Army senior officer Colonel Hudson Muchemwa won the prize for best district soya bean farmer at a field day held last week at his farm in Kangere, Hurungwe.

His award comes as a number of army officers have excelled in their farming, resulting in many them hosting field days.

Officiating at the field day, Hurungwe West Member of Parliament Cde Ngonidzashe Masenda said Col Muchemwa’s field was selected to host the field day for having the best soya bean crop in the district.

Cde Masenda hailed Col Muchemwa for being exemplary in supporting the Government’s Agrarian Reform Programme.

The farm has a thriving 40 hectares of land under soya beans, which was adjudged to be the best by agriculture extension officers in the district.

For his efforts, Col Muchemwa was awarded several prizes including maize seed, fertilisers and some farming implements.

Present to witness the event were general and senior army officers, among them Brigadier General Ernest Shamhu, Brigadier General Francis Mutisi and Colonel Charles Shumba.
