Senior police officers are currently undergoing a performance review workshop in Harare aimed at improving service delivery to the people.

The workshop is being attended by officers of the rank of assistant commissioner and was this Wednesday, addressed by Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said: “The Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba has held performance review workshop at the ZRP Sports Club at Mkushi Police Academy with Assistant Commissioners.

“The workshop is part of the ZRP’s bid to improve performance and service delivery by senior officers as the police prepares for new policing challenges in the year 2027.”

Last month, Commissioner – General Mutamba challenged senior officers to uphold high standards of policing and ensure the public receives professional service that guarantees peace, safety and security.

Addressing a senior officers’ review workshop at Police Sports Club in Harare, Comm-Gen Mutamba encouraged commissioners to lead efforts to strengthen standards and improve service delivery across the country.

The workshop was attended by senior officers of the rank of commissioner, including national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Comm Nyathi said the police chief had emphasised the responsibility of senior officers to ensure the people received policing services that met the required standards.

“The Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba has challenged all commissioners to be the torch-bearer in ensuring that Zimbabweans get the police standards which guarantee peace, safety and security for socio-economic development in the country,” he said.

The call for high standards comes as the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) intensifies training and capacity-building programmes to strengthen discipline, professionalism and the effective discharge of constitutional responsibilities at station level.

The police have stepped up training for junior officers holding the rank of Sergeant-Major, while chief superintendents, who command districts and head various departments and sections, have also recently attended a training workshop in Harare.
