adminAssistant Regional Immigration Officer Mr Francis Mabika yesterday said the department had been saddened and shocked by Mr Svinurai’s death as he was one of its industrious, committed and hardworking senior officers.
“His death has left a void in the department and indeed in his family which is irreplaceable,” he said.
Born on November 16, 1969 in Buhera, Mr Svinurai did his secondary education at Makumbe High School in Buhera before enrolling at the University of Zimbabwe where he did a Bachelor of Science Politics and Administration Honours Degree in 1993.
In 1995, he joined the Immigration Department and rose through the ranks to become assistant regional immigration officer in April 2005.
He was posted to several stations, the Immigration Headquarters (December 1995 to January 1996), Victoria Falls (1996-1999), Plumtree Border Post (2003-2007) and he was instrumental in the opening of Mphoengs Border Post which is now fully operational.
Between 2007 and December 31 2010 he was officer-in-charge Chirundu Border Post and then Forbes Border Post between January 1, 2011 until the time of his death.
Mr Svinurai is survived by wife Ketai and two children.
