savage conditions.
Rickson Madanhire (28) of House Number 3068 Mainway Meadows, Waterfalls was recently caught red-handed exposing three puppies that he was selling on the road to savage conditions.
Madanhire was being charged under the act that prevents cruelty to animals.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the charge when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Arnold Maburo.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, which was suspended on condition he performs 210 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Michael Chakandida told the court that the informant Mr Bernard Ndlovu, who is employed by Veterinarians for Animal Welfare, received an anonymous call to the effect that Madanhire was selling three puppies that were three-months old along Coventry road, Workington.
He then went to Mbare Police Station where he was given a police officer who subsequently arrested Madanhire for causing suffering to the puppies by exposing them to unfavourable conditions at a tender age.
The puppies were later taken to the SPCA for special care.
