Serial killer Bright Zhantali is expected back in court today for his indictment for his murder trials to be heard in the High Court.
Zhantali appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi yesterday and the matter was rolled over to today for indictment.
The court heard that on July 17, 2020, at around 7 pm, Zhanthali approached the now deceased Priscilla Chidhakwa 24, and lured her after offering to pay US$10 for the night.
Zhanthali indicated that he wanted to go to his place in Mabvuku but took her to Donnybrook Race Course where he raped her and later killed her.
The court heard that after killing her Zhanthali threw the body of the deceased in a trench.
On 18 July the informant Marvelous Matondo who saw the deceased’s body and observed that she was tied on her neck and hands with pieces of blankets and reported the matter to the police.
On December 7 2021, at around 1pm, Zhanthali was approached by the now deceased Manyara Chisora 46,looking for a piece of land to rent.
Zhanthali allegedly showed her the land and as they went to her house to sign the lease documents, he raped her before he struck her three times using the back of an axe leading to her death, and fled from the scene
stealing some groceries, Huawei Honor cellphone, blankets, and some clothes.
At around 5 pm, now deceased’s daughter (name withheld) aged 15 years, returned home from collecting Mazhanje fruit from the bush and found her mother dead in her
bedroom.
She told her aunt who went to the scene and they informed Cecilia Maphovire who filed a police report.
Zhanthali is also accused of murdering Spiwe Nyamoto 50 after he hired her for all-night services and raped her before killing her and dumping her body in Mabvuku Sewage ponds.
Zhantali also confessed to over ten murders that occurred in Marondera.
In November 2022, Zhantali’s other murder trial was off to a false start after he exhibited ‘strange’ theatrics which prompted Justice Roger Manyangadze to order that he be admitted at the Chikurubi Maximum Psychiatric Unit.
