A SERIAL rapist, who targeted women in the Harare West area, raping and robbing them of their belongings, was dragged to court yesterday to answer to eight counts of rape and robbery.
Brian Rwafa (39), was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei.
He complained to the court that he was assaulted by the mob that arrested him before handing him over to the police.
He told the court he can only explain one of the offences in which he attacked a woman who was walking with her child and was arrested.
He denied any involvement in the others.
He was remanded in custody to March 21 and was advised to approach the High Court for bail consideration as he is facing more than one third schedule offence.
The court heard that on September 30, last year, one of the complainants, who was 27 at the time, was walking home along Lorraine Drive when Rwafa sprung in front of her from nowhere.
He grabbed her by the neck and took US$20 and her phone.
He then dragged her into a nearby bush and raped her.
Rwafa then pounced on the second complainant as she was on her way to Westgate 24 Hour Medical Centre to visit a friend who was admitted there.
He grabbed her and dragged her into a nearby maize field and took away her cellphone and cash valued at US$130 and later raped her.
Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.
