A RWANDAN national was arraigned for fraud in the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Brunett Eddy Akoyiremeye, 26, appeared before magistrate, Dennis Mangosi, facing three counts of fraud totalling US$21 896.

Akoyiremeye was told to return to court today for her bail application.

The State heard that sometime in November, last year, Akoyiremeye went to Samuel Chimbwa and introduced herself as Brunett Chiza from Malawi.

She told him that she was capable of supplying bulk groceries to him.

The State said Samuel owns a supermarket.

On December 22, Akoyiremeye told Samuel that she could supply rice in bulk.

He gave her US$13 500 to supply it on the same day, but she vanished.

Samuel tried to contact Akoyiremeye on her phone, but the number was no longer in use.

In another matter, Akoyiremeye is being accused of swindling Andrew Munoanyira of about US$2 856.

It is alleged that on January 17, Akoyiremeye also went to Andrew pretending to be a grocery supplier.

Andrew gave her 100 boxes of cooking oil and she promised to give him his money the following day.

Andrew tried to contact Akoyiremeye, the following day, but she was nowhere to be found.

The court was told that on January 18, Akoyiremeye approached Jane Gwabuda requiring capital to buy bulk groceries at N Richards, which she intended to resell.

Akoyiremeye was given US$5 500.

The following day she went to Jane and showed her a US$22 000 invoice claiming she had bought the goods and had already supplied various shops and was now awaiting her money.

Grace Mugocheke appeared for the State.
