Serious jostling for posts ahead of Bosso elective AGM

Ngqwele Dube Sports Correspondent
BARELY a month to the Highlanders annual general meeting that will be followed by an elective gathering for three posts up for grabs, several club aspirants have started positioning themselves for a place in the sun. Elections will be held a week after the AGM and positions that will be up for grabs include the chairmanship, that of the secretary-general and a committee member.

Serious contenders for the posts are expected to emerge in the coming two weeks although Emmet Ndlovu and Donald Ndebele have already declared their candidacy for the post of secretary.

Both Ndlovu and Ndebele made their intentions clear late last year. However, indications are that more candidates will come into the fray.
Ndlovu and Ndebele will be taking to the ring for the second time in a row after losing out to incumbent, Andrew Tapela in 2012. Tapela, then, garnered 153 votes while Ndlovu took 147 and Ndebele pocketed 55 votes.

Ndlovu says he was prepared for the second bite of the cherry following calls from “the people who have my background and know that I have been involved in football in general and Bosso in particular for several years”.
Ndebele, a local businessman, says he has a lot to offer at Bosso.

Another candidate that has emerged for the SG post is that of Innocent Batsani Ncube although he was unavailable for comment by late yesterday. He is believed to have travelled to Malaysia on a business trip.

Incumbent chairman, Peter Dube is reported to be interested in running again although he has been playing his cards close to his chest about his availability.

Another candidate that could emerge for chairman, is a former holder of the post, Ernest “Maphepa” Sibanda who had been tipped to take over as team manager but was “snubbed” for former player, Netsai “Super” Moyo, who will be unveiled, in that position tomorrow.

Sibanda has not declared his intention although sources close to him say he was miffed by not being offered the managerial role but the executive felt the post was too low for a person like him, who won the championship for Highlanders as both manager and chairman.

Contacted for comment yesterday Sibanda said his decision (to contest) would be guided by members and supporters.
The less influential post of committee member is currently held by Charles “Six-One” Moyo and he is likely to retain the post although Wisdom Mabhena, whom he defeated last time around, has also shown interest.
