Seven-goal loss a wake-up call for Chikwata

ZIMBABWE Saints chairman Tawanda Ruzive believes their heavy 7-0 league defeat to Jordan FC should serve as a wake-up call for the club’s members to help address the challenges affecting the team.

Chikwata have endured an inconsistent period in football and were inactive throughout 2025, making their return to regular competition a difficult one.

The latest defeat has exposed some of the challenges the club is facing, with Ruzive pointing to transport and inadequate preparation as major concerns.

“We are so distraught and we are so low. Conceding seven goals is quite disappointing considering where we are coming from,” said Ruzive.

Chikwata had travelled to Hwange for a league match the previous week, and Ruzive said the players could not train after returning, leaving them unprepared for their next assignment.

“We had a game in Hwange last week and when the boys came back they could not train at all, so this result was inevitable in a way. We were just not prepared for the game,” he said.

Rather than viewing the result in isolation, Ruzive believes it should force the club to confront some of the problems that have made it difficult to maintain consistency.

He singled out transport as an area requiring urgent attention, calling on Chikwata members around the world to rally behind the club’s bid to acquire its own bus.

“This actually is a wake-up call to our members all over the world that we need our own bus so that we lessen our own pressure,” said Ruzive.

For Chikwata, the heavy defeat has therefore become more than just another league result. Ruzive hopes it will galvanise members into helping the club create the conditions needed for the team to train, travel and compete more consistently.
