MINISTER of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera has challenged innovators to move beyond ideas and develop tangible solutions that address Zimbabwe’s socio-economic challenges and drive industrialisation.
The rallying call from Minister Mavetera came during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Innovation Expo and Conference held on Saturday at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) in Bulawayo.

She was accompanied by her deputy, Dingumuzi Phuti, Ministry’s chief Director Mr Prince Sibanda and directors from the Ministry.
Minister Mavetera said innovators should transform their brilliant concepts into market-ready solutions that create jobs and solve real problems.
“As we bring the 2026 Potraz Innovation Expo and Conference to a close, we leave with a responsibility, to turn the ideas brought together in Bulawayo into solutions that improve our people’s lives. Turn each promising prototype into a clear plan for delivery.
“I challenge every participating team to leave with a practical plan for the next ninety days. Identify the problem you will solve, the people who will test your solution, the support you need and the result you intend to demonstrate. Set a date for reviewing your progress. Some projects will need further research, others will need a stronger business model or a simpler design and be honest about that work. A clear
understanding of what must improve shows discipline,” she said.
Minister Mavetera called on Potraz, universities and innovation hubs to help sustain these connections beyond the Expo.
“They need to match innovators with mentors, test opportunities and appropriate pathways to finance. A promising introduction
made here should lead to a purposeful follow-up. An exhibition creates visibility. What we do after it closes creates lasting value.
“The next measure of our success will be found in the farmer who reaches a better market, the small business that gains a new customer and the citizen who can access a public service without an unnecessary journey. Above all, I salute our innovators. Presenting an idea for scrutiny takes courage.
Behind each prototype are hours of work, difficult choices and the willingness to try again when something does not work. That effort deserves
our respect,” said Minister Mavetera.
