Seven killed in accident

There were 11 people including the driver in the seven-seater car which was heading for Bulawayo.
Confirming the accident, Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Patrick Chademana said the four seriously injured  were rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where they were said to be battling for their lives.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations showed that the fatal accident was a result of overloading.
“The vehicle, a Toyota Royal station wagon with a seating capacity of seven passengers and owned by Mr Antony Mugodi of Warren Park, Harare, had 11 people on board including the driver, Mr Brian Chavunduka (42).
“On approaching the 43km peg along the Mvuma-Gweru  road, the vehicle burst its right rear tyre resulting in Mr Chavunduka losing control of the vehicle,” said Insp Chademana.
He said it then veered off the road to the left and overturned.
“Five people died on the spot while two others died on admission at Gweru Provincial Hospital. The other four, including the driver, Mr Chavunduka, were seriously injured and are admitted at the same hospital,” he said.
Insp Chademana identified the seven deceased, most of them from Bulawayo, as Dambudzo Mauya (38)                              of Sauerstown, Innocent Madzingira of Emganwini, and Nobekhezeli Nothando, who was a student at Nust.
The other deceased are Richard Alexander Chindowe (74) of Gweru East, Collin Moyo of Fair Vile Close, Greendale, Harare, Tafadzwa Kagwambo a woman aged (27) and Sanele Phiri (30) both of whose residential addresses were not given.
Insp Chademana said those who are at Gweru Provincial Hospital are the driver, Mr Chavunduka, Mr Vusumuzi Muguni, Ms Nindi Shoko (59) of Athlone Mansions, Bulawayo, and Mrs Motsi Dewa.
