adminLUKAS PODOLSKI bade farewell to international football in the best way possible on Wednesday night, with his stunning 69th minute strike sealing a narrow Germany.
The former Bayern Munich and Arsenal striker’s swerving left-footed effort earned a standing ovation from those in the stands at the Westfalenstadion and a 1-0 win for Joachim Low’s side.
It was not only the home support that was impressed by the goal, though. Joe Hart, the England goalkeeper, appeared to congratulate Podolski shortly after being beaten all ends up by his strike.
According to Podolski, while he and Hart shared a brief moment and a fist bump, the Torino ‘keeper told him: “It was a f*****g brilliant shot – amazing!”
Podolski, who was making his 130th and final appearance for Germany, lapped up the appreciation of Die Mannschaft’s supporters after being substituted by Low in the 84th minute.
The 31-year-old, currently on the books at Galatasaray, returned to the pitch after the full-time whistle and was given the “bumps” by his international teammates.
Podolski then proceeded to give numerous interviews to German media, not even allowing himself a moment to change out of his full kit.
Podolski made his international debut in 2004 in a pre-European Championships friendly with Hungary. – The Independent
