A seven-year-old learner at Zengenene Primary School in Murehwa died on Friday after a fight with another learner of the same age on the school grounds.
Police confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased as Anotida Makoto, who reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness following the altercation.
“The ZRP reports a tragic incident in which a 7-year-old learner, Anotida Makoto, died after a fight with another 7-year-old learner at Zengenene Primary School grounds in Murehwa on 23 October, 2026. The victim reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness after the altercation,” police said in a statement.
Makoto was taken to St Paul’s Musami Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In an interview police national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the National Prosecuting Authority would determine the appropriate legal course of action, taking into account the age of the other learner.
