IT has become a common phenomenon for men to approach traditional healers to improve their sexual stamina. In extreme cases some go as far as enlarging their sexual organs, all in a bid to satisfy their partners.
Not only do men frequent these healers to boost their sexual performances, women also visit as they are usually lured by the need to be “hot” in bed.
In a traditional set-up, men take what is commonly referred to as isigubhu, which is a concoction of different traditional herbs meant to stimulate man’s sexual appetite. Such measures are taken because in most cases men fear that should they perform poorly in bed, their dignity and authority will be eroded, something that might force their women to look for better sex elsewhere.
However, in these modern times traditional herbs are not the only sexual stimulation available to sexually anxious men. Chinese herbs are a hit on the black market and most streets are now decorated with people with flyers advertising different products which they claim heal all manner of sexually related afflictions. However, once these liquids are consumed it is not all smooth sailing, as some men, for quick results, take an overdose of the concoctions which later bring undesired results.
With a great number of people both men and women in need of the herbs as solutions to their sexual problems, it is only logical that sexual healers — the source of these herbs and medicines, are also in high demand.
The sexual frenzy has seen the emergence of both bogus and genuine traditional healers in the city but one Richard Ndebele of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo has managed to stand out as many people frequent his home in search of sexual solutions.
“Some men are just men by their trousers, they are not men at all,” claims Ndebele. “I am a man who is on demand. Men come from all corners of Bulawayo to seek help, they are crying, they are no longer performing.”
As if to confirm his sexual prowess, he boasts that he is happily married to five wives and has 15 children. He said through the use of herbs he discovered that there was no reason why men should misfire in bed. He proudly declares that with his concoctions, an unmarried man can only take a sip because the full mixture can force him to rape.
“I am fit and strong. I am not worried about bedroom malfunction. I know where I can get the herbs and use them effectively. There are herbs which men should take for them to be well prepared for their partners. As men grow older, their sexual appetite decreases.
“As a result some men would demand services from their partners less often than they used to do. And to those with fairly young wives it could be a problem if they fail to give them what they are used to getting. Some men come to me saying they have been bewitched. It is not witchcraft but it is failure by men to take care of their bodies.
“For me, I take my concoction and I meet the first wife and finish them all on different occasions but I will still be fresh and raring to go. Actually, when you take the concoction you become strong and one woman cannot be enough. If you can’t control yourself, you can just become so obsessed to such a point that you will want to do it whenever your partner is free,” he said proudly.
Born in Mberengwa, Ndebele (59) was brought up by his great grandfather Chief Bangwe who was a traditional healer. As a young boy, the chief who had 12 wives would send him to look for some herbs which he would bring and pound. It is from this background that he managed to get knowledge of making the sex boost concoctions.
Ndebele said he does not charge people for his concoctions because he is a traditionalist whose motive is to build homes. He said his concoctions were normal as they did not make one a sex slave.
“He used to tell me that when I grow up, I will use these herbs. He did not specify because by then, I was young and it was improper for him to tell me about sex. True to his words, I have grown up and now I understand the importance of those herbs,” said Ndebele who is also a gifted sign writer.
“Some of the reasons that lead men failing to perform are that men tend to have intercourse with their partners during their early days after their monthly periods. More so, soon after a woman gives birth, men should not have intercourse with their wives for about six weeks.
“The reason behind this is that when they indulge in intercourse, man will be sucking in dirty fluids that the women will be producing as they cleanse themselves and as a result those fluids block some veins and among them are veins which have something to do with the manhood. The result is that one becomes sexually weak and that marks the beginning of sexual disaster.”
Ndebele said his concoction includes ihlilwi, ithunduluka, mahlebekufeni and isafice. For these, he said one has to pound them to become powder to put them in porridge or in warm water. The concoction, he says, cleans the body system and after drinking it, one will have a serious running stomach as it cleanses the system of all the dirty that will be clogging the veins and the body.
