LILIAN Kandemiri, who was arrested for allegedly attempting to give away her 15-year old niece as a sex slave yesterday pleaded for a postponement of her trial saying her blood pressure was high.
Kandemiri, who is famous for leading the ill-fated invasion of Bulawayo City Council’s Emganwini Farm in 2009, told magistrate Willard Moyo that she could not carry on with court proceedings at the West Commonage courts yesterday.
She allegedly defrauded her friend, Elphas Ncube of $40,000 after selling his Esigodini plot while he was in prison last year.
Coughing persistently, Kandemiri said she needed time to recover before standing trial.
“I have a problem with my throat, I can not speak so Iam requesting a postponement of my trial to a later date,” she said.
Moyo agreed and postponed the trial to March 5.
Kandemiri is facing charges of attempting to give away her niece to Ncube as payment for the money she owed him.
Ncube asked Kandemiri to sell his plot Number 7 Sprout Road Esigodini for at least $70,000 but she later informed him that she had sold the plot for $40,000.
When Ncube was released from prison Kandemiri failed to give him his money but instead offered him her niece to offset the debt.
Ncube reported the matter to police leading to Kandemiri’s arrest.
