A 23-year-old Budiriro man last week appeared in court for murdering a commercial sex worker he had hired for the night after accusing her of stealing his $30.

Pardon Mandunguza of Number 8768 Nhewe Road, Budiriro 5B in Harare, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing murder charges.

He was remanded in custody to July 28.

Mr Mahwe advised him to apply for bail at the High Court. Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on July 11 Mandunguza went to Changamire Night Club in Budiriro 5B.

The court heard that he hired the now deceased, Unity Gondo (22), for the night. Mandunguza took the woman to his house and paid her $5.

The court heard that later that night Mandunguza noticed that his $30 was missing.

He confronted Gondo and struck her with an unknown object at the back of her head.

She bled profusely to death. Mandunguza allegedly carried the body and dumped it in a pit about 40 metres from his house.

The following day Mandunguza was seen burning Gondo’s skin tight outfit and neighbours claimed that they saw him assaulting the woman.

He was arrested and a blood-stained pair of jean trousers was recovered from his house.
