Sex workers in fatal brawl over client

Adispute over a client turned deadly when two commercial sex workers teamed up to batter a rival with bricks, leaving her with fatal head injuries.

Nokukhanya Ncube and Tadiwanashe Chipindu appeared before Bulawayo provincial resident magistrate Themba Chimiso facing murder charges and were remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court that the pair clashed with the victim over claims she had stolen Ncube’s client.

The disagreement escalated into violence as the accused joined forces to attack the woman with bricks.

“The now-deceased sustained a deep cut on the head . . . She fell to the floor and became unconscious. Other sex workers tried to perform first aid. An ambulance was called to the scene and arrived swiftly. They carried her and she died while she was being ferried to hospital (Mpilo Central Hospital),” said Gurazhira.

Police attended the scene and recovered the brick allegedly used in the attack from Ncube.

In a separate case, two men appeared in court facing murder charges following an alleged fatal attack involving a knife and a cue stick.

Modist Bwabwa (24) and Godwin Zhame (26), both from Inyathi in Matabeleland North province, appeared before magistrate Chimiso and were remanded in custody to a later date.

The court heard that the victim had tried to intervene in a fight between his friend and Zhame.

Zhame allegedly stabbed the man twice in the head with a knife, while Bwabwa allegedly struck him twice on the head with a cue stick, leaving him unconscious.

The victim was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. — Bulawayo Bureau
