SHABANIE coach Takesure Chiragwi says he is tipping CAPS United to win the league championship this year.
The two teams clash at Maglas in a Castle Lager Premiership tie tomorrow.
The Green Machine coach Lloyd Chitembwe has drafted midfielder Dominic Mukandi into the squad for this trip.
His counterpart, Chiragwi, who played for CAPS United, said he has a lot of respect for his former paymasters.
“I have so much respect for CAPS United whom I am also tipping to win the league,” said Chiragwi.
“They have depth and they have a good coach.
“Besides, CAPS United is a big brand which anyone is obliged to respect.
“We cannot flatter ourselves to try and view CAPS United as just another team.
“They are a big club with history and they deserve respect.
“But we are going to approach the match as any other game.
“We also want the three points and we will be at home so we are confident we will deliver.’’
The CAPS United executive have decided against renewing an agreement they had with a group of their supporters going by the name CAPS United Latest.
The fans used to reward the team’s best player for every month with hampers worth over $250.
However, the deal was not renewed, but the fans, who had already voted goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba as their best player for last month, said they will throw a lavish birthday party for Makepekepe’s injured captain Hardlife Zvirekwi, who turns 33 today.
Zvirekwi was involved in an accident in March and had his right palm amputated.
The supporters’ representative, Nevison Gakaka, told The Herald the group had agreed to throw a birthday party for their skipper.
“We had been waiting for the contract, but it seems nothing is coming.
“We are CAPS United supporters and we rally behind them even when the chips are down.
‘’But we won’t blame anyone, the team knows what is best for them and we are more than ready to embrace whatever decision they make as long as it is in the best interest of the club.
“As it stands, there is no contract for us to do what we were doing last season.
“But we had put the resources for the monthly awards and we have decided to throw a big birthday party for our captain Hardlife Zvirekwi.
“In the meantime, we will wait to hear from our respected club officials.
“Our mandate as supporters is simple — we have to rally behind the team in good and bad times,” said Makepekepe supporters.
