SHABANIE Mine bounced back to winning ways in spectacular fashion after a four nil demolition of Chrome Stars at Maglas Stadium in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter over the weekend. The Chinda Boys got their goals from Brighton Pamhirwa, Tafadzwa Chimoyo and Erea Phiri. Gibson Pedzerai also found himself on the score sheet to hit the final nail onto the chrome miners’ coffin.
The win was the asbestos miners’ second which catapulted them to eighth on the log table while Chrome Stars saw their three match unbeaten run going up in smoke, in the process dropping from third on the log standings to seventh.
After going down 0–3 to log leaders ZPC Munyati and 1–2 to MSU, long-serving Shabanie Mine mentor Arnold Jani believes that the win against the chrome miners is the beginning of big things to come.
“I’m happy to have won and it sets the tone for our championship campaign. We had one or two things that we wanted rectified and from now going forward I’m confident that we will hold our own,” said the Chinda Boys mentor who has not made it a secret that he is aiming a quick return into the topflight league.
In other matches, power generators ZPC Munyati continued their fairytale run in the league after edging FC Platinum Under 19 one nil to swap positions.
Going into the match the young platinum miners had a 100 percent record after winning all their three opening matches before being halted by the league newboys who took over pole position following the win.
Former premiership outfit, Gweru United, registered their first win of the campaign after beating visiting Blanket Mine 3–2 at Mkoba Stadium while Border Strikers edged ZRP Beitbridge one nil a Beitbridge derby to claim the town’s bragging rights.
