Shabanie gets cash donation

Premiership club.

Shabanie have been struggling to meet their running costs and this has ended up affecting player morale.

Yesterday, they got a shot in the arm.

“We have been reading stories and we felt the club needed our assistance so that they remain in the (Premier) League,” said Thamson Mtombeni, the general manager of the company.

“It is our responsibility to plough back to the community.

“We have a lodge and we need teams in Zvishavane and if Shabanie does not do well it will be a disaster to us. We are ready to help every club in Zvishavane and we can also assist FC Platinum and even Jairos Jiri.”

The Shabanie Mine chairman, Nephiel Rugara, who received the donation on behalf of his club, said this cash injection had come as a huge boost. “On behalf of the club and the fans I am very excited with this kind gesture which will go a long way in helping us,” said Rugara.

“Whatever we get will be put to good use. “I am also urging our fans to support our club president Greg Mataka who has done well for the club.”

Shabanie have already lost head coach, Luke Masomere, but  the scheduled press conference where the gaffer was set to be unveiled as the new Buffaloes’ coach in Mutare yesterday was postponed for undisclosed reasons.

“I am still trying to get hold of the club secretary and I do not know what has finally materialised and I don’t want to say anything at the moment until I am furnished with the finer details,” said Buffaloes’ chairman, Hlanganiso Matangaidze.

The Mutare-based team had promised to unveil the new coach yesterday and their efforts to land Masomere signature seems to have hit a brickwall as the gaffer travelled back to Zvishavane yesterday. Masomere appears undecided about which club to join as he has a number of offers on his table and also has a soft spot for the Shabanie Mine fans.

He is expected to make a statement about his future today. A number of fans have been touched by the financial plight of the asbestos miners and some have even gone onto the streets to look for donations as a way of trying to raise enough money to retain Masomere.
