Shabanie Mine to honour players

ZIFA Central Soccer League champions Shabanie Mine are set to honour their outstanding players who did duty during their fruitful campaign in the just ended season.

The Chinda Boys were crowned regional champions after amassing 65 points in which they had their hands on the crown with a game to spare.

Shabanie Mine now awaits the final boardroom decision to be taken by Zifa and its affiliate, the PSL, on whether they will gain automatic promotion into the premiership or participate in the playoffs.

Club treasurer Maxwell Nyashanu said the club was still finalising a date for the awards ceremony but hinted they will be held before the end of the year. “We had an eventful run this year and holding the awards ceremony is a way of capping a fantastic season by appreciating our players and the technical team who ensured that we return to the topflight league,” he said.

“We are in the process of securing sponsorship and many people that we have approached have shown interest,” he said.

Nyashanu whose side had very little resources but defied the odds to win the championship, said the club had intensified its efforts to lure sponsors to bankroll the team once they are promoted into the elite league.

Favourites for honours for the awards would include Erea Phiri who is also set to walk away with the top goal scorer award after netting seven goals during the campaign.

Former Warriors defender Zvenyika Makonese, left back Ricky Bota and exciting attacking midfielder Terrence Rukweza are also favourites for the player of the year award.
