Shabanie outsmart Buffaloes

yesterday.

After losing four matches and a draw against Chicken Inn on Wednesday, coach Saul Chaminuka and his men have now managed to collect a single point out of a possible 15 from their recent five league matches.

Not even the presence of their sponsors in the terraces represented by Mbada Diamonds general manager Tendai Kadyamusuma during yesterday’s match could inspire the home team to victory.
Buffaloes were the better side in the early stages of the match and were duly rewarded with an early goal but the Mutare outfit later went to sleep and allowed their opponents to claw back into the game.

The Mutare-based army side opened the scoring through Shepherd Nkata’s header off Philip Themani’s fine cross nine minutes into the match.

However, the visitors restored parity when former Gunners player Munyaradzi Kunyarimwe’s free-kick just outside the box was deflected into the net, leaving Buffaloes goalkeeper Hope Bere just a mere spectator.

Man-of-the-match and fellow former Gunners player Fungai Chirinda propelled his team into the lead when he knocked the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Jittery Buffaloes defender Never Musvipa then needlessly gave away possession to Shabanie’s second half substitute Eria Phiri who squared the ball for Caleb Masocha to slot in the final goal of the match.

Chaminuka said his team paid dearly for being complacent soon after scoring their first goal.
“I think we started the match well but we failed to hold on. We paid dearly for being complacent soon after scoring the first goal. It is sad that we have now lost another match at home and this puts us under pressure,” he said.

His opposite number Luke Masomere was elated by the result.
“We really performed well and we are quite excited about the result. We were a bit disorganised when we started the match but we told the guys to play as a team and it worked well for us,” he said.
