AT 26, Shadreck Ndlovu hails from Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb. He is a proud holder of an Honours Degree in Language and Communication from Lupane State University. Beyond academia, he is deeply entrenched in event management and entertainment, carving out a niche as a Master of Ceremonies (MC). His stage moniker, “Rokubakutisa Papa Shaddy,” is swiftly gaining recognition.

His journey began unexpectedly in Form 2 when he was thrust into the spotlight. The designated MC for a ceremony was tardy, prompting his mother to nudge Shadreck into action. Despite initial fear, he rose to the occasion, captivating the guests with his knack for storytelling and humour. His impromptu performance not only filled the void but left a lasting impression.

Shadreck is a professional who perceives his role as more than a mere means to earn. He is dedicated to delivering exemplary service, ensuring punctuality is paramount for every event he graces. His commitment to excellence is unwavering.

What sets Ndlovu apart is his humility and approachability. He possesses a unique ability to alleviate client anxieties, ensuring a seamless flow of events from commencement to conclusion.

Ndlovu reflected on a pivotal moment that fuelled his passion. At his sister’s wedding, faced with a delay in the arrival of the official Master of Ceremony, he was called upon to entertain the awaiting guests.

The experience was instrumental in shaping his path and solidifying his aspirations in the realm of event hosting.

“When I was doing my Lower Six the MC did not show up and our school headmaster asked me to cover up the prize-giving day ceremony, and everyone was happy with my performance.

“I got my brand name from one man when I attended an event in Harare where I was entertaining guests and people warmed up to the brand name, ‘Papa Shaddy’ which I adopted up till now,” he said.

He found motivation in the calls he received for events, a sign that his work was resonating with people.

“People’s comments keep me going, they motivate me to keep holding on even when I am about to give up. It is one word from the people that gives me strength to carry on. Some would even say I am doing a great job just like Obert Dube, the poet. Such comments motivate me a lot.”

Ndlovu envisions a future where his talent takes him around the world. He aspires to become the entertainment industry’s go-to name, so coveted for his skills that events, no matter how far-flung (like Ghana), will clamour for his unique presence.

“In the next five years, I wish to be the biggest MC not only in Zimbabwe but in the world. I want to get booked in countries like Germany, China, UK, like everywhere when one thinks of an event regardless of their location they will have to call Papa Shaddy. I aim to be the biggest events manager in the world,” said Ndlovu.

While Ndlovu harbours grand ambitions, his field presents significant hurdles. Clients often undervalue his talent, resulting in underpayment or even non-payment for his high-quality work.

“I was surprised when I received a call from Bulawayo Casino requesting my services. I went there and did a great job. I consider it as one of his biggest achievements. It shows my brand name is growing.

“I will be humbled to also be considered in the future for bigger events such as the Nama,” Ndlovu said. — @Lo7246Lovelyn
