Shakes reveals Bafana way forward

BAFANA BAFANA are on the right track despite being knocked in the first round at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, that’s according to coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba.Speaking Robert Marawa on the SuperSport magazine show, Extra Time, the Bafana Bafana mentor admitted that the way the team’s qualification had raised the hopes too high.

“We scored first in every match at the Afcon. You would remember when we started with this team what was our problem, the first 10 – 20 minutes we were sleeping and people would run us over all the time. We worked on that and sorted it out but then we get to this stage something else comes up,” said the Bafana mentor.

“We score goals early and late in the games the opposition scored. If you look at all the opposition goals that we conceded it was after the 60th minute which is when we should be consolidating. When the opposition scored the goals you could see bodies dropping down, which is what didn’t come right for us,” added Mashaba.

Mashaba however said he has listened to the people’s concerns and taken lessons from this tournament as he continues to build a team for the future.

“We have sat and listened to the people. As I said we are building up a team, all that has been said has been taken in and put in a corner. We are still going to continue with this project. All of us were raving about (Andre) Ayew, he is 23 years old and has played 63 games, when are we going to do that? I am looking at South Africa presenting a 17 year old at the World Cup, that’s my aim,” concluded Mashaba. — SuperSport
