Sharon Macheso’s husband Kudakwashe Munetsi was yesterday fined $200 after he was convicted of assaulting his wife. Magistrate Mr Tavonga Mtetwa noted that Munetsi was a first offender and was likely to reform.

Munetsi was facing charges of violating the Domestic Violence Act.

“I have considered that you are a first offender and you are still young. Chances are very high that you will not repeat the same offence and you have learnt your lesson,” he said.

Mr Mtetwa said Munetsi and Sharon’s marriage was in a sorry state because the two were very young.

“It is sad that your marriage is in a sorry state. The two of you bring the worst in each other and there is evidently a lack of genuine love in your marriage. A contributing factor to the collapse of your marriage is your age and I hope you have both learnt a lesson from this incident,” he said.

Prosecutor Ms Gayton Vhiriri had applied for a stiffer penalty.

She argued the case was highly publicised and must be used as an example to would-be offenders.
