NOKEL Security Southern Region Soccer League April top goalscorers Remington Masuku of Black Boots and Ntabazinduna’s James Chivasa face off this afternoon at Fairbridge with the former out for a second win of the season. The two players who scored three goals each in their opening four matches will share the $150 monthly prize money at Fairbridge.
Tumediso Mokoena, a Zifa Southern region board member said: “We shall be presenting our April top goalscorer’s award to joint winners Masuku and Chivasa at Fairbridge. This award is meant to motivate strikers and we are grateful to Nokel Security who’ve seen it fit to partner us and spice up competition in our league.”
Ntabazinduna — sixth on the table with 10 points — were on a bye at the weekend and trail leaders ZPC Hwange by four points. A victory for the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side will see them move up the ladder to either position two or three depending on the scoreline.
Chivasa has been a regular scorer for Ntabazinduna and is expected to play a key role in today’s tricky tie alongside striking partners Bravie Sibanda, Rasiwe Banda and Nkosilathi Ncube.
For Black Boots to keep their championship hopes alive they need to win today’s match. The police side with two games in hand are on position 11 with four points.
Besides Masuku, Simon Njeleza, Louis “Rambo” Ncube and captain Cephas Chinjekwe are some of the players expected to lead Black Boots’ championship campaign. They go into today’s game smarting from a shock 0-1 home defeat to Technosphere.
Black Boots were not the only ones to suffer a shock loss at the weekend as Bulawayo Chiefs and Bulawayo City respectively went down to Trumus and Casmyn by identical 1-0 scorelines.
ZPC Hwange bagged three points without kicking a ball after walking over Old Nic Mine who failed to turn-up for their encounter and in the process shot to the top of the table from position three.
Former Railstars and Highlanders striker Lenience Mpofu scored from the penalty spot to give Bantu Rovers a 1-0 win over struggling Indlovu Iyanyathela at HQ One Brigade.
Tapela Ngwenya’s Makomo returned to winning ways, recovering from a 1-3 loss to Bulawayo Chiefs to beat Mpumalanga 2-0 in a Hwange derby.
