Shasha reflects on how amapiano changed her life

Her voice is one of the few that pioneered the Amapiano sound.
Not only did she mould the sound, but she also showed us how versatile it could be.
She crawled so the likes of Thatohatsi and Mawhoo could fly.
From Tender Love and Love You Tonight to Something About You and Mthande, her reign on the dance floor is undeniable.
Hailed the queen of Amapiano, Shasha returned to the music scene in 2024 after taking a two-year hiatus to focus on her mental health and personal growth.
Back and better, she lives her heart on stage with every performance.
With her return, not much has changed, as people still love the good old love songs that they can bust a move or two to.
Giving us a glimpse into her love letter to Amapiano, she thanks the genre for changing so many people’s lives.
“Thank you, Amapiano! You have allowed me to be myself, express who I am and be a part of a huge movement that has touched so many people all over the world.
“I remember the first time I went to Afronation, a German woman recognised me, and I never expected that. It was after this that I realised how much impact this genre has.”
From back in 2013, when her journey with music started, she adds that she’s sacrificed so much to be where she is, and it’s all been worth it.
Of all the sacrifices, though, she highlights ‘the death of self’ as the biggest one.
“It’s really the hardest thing to go head-to-head with yourself, and if we were to get into this one, we’d write a whole book, and we’d be here all day,” she chuckles.
