LUCIA ‘Lucy Bardie’ Mazhou’s was hired for make-up work for the performers of Baba Harare’s new song, ‘Sisi Viola’.
But, what started as a routine make-up assignment quickly became something quite big.
When she arrived at the venue, the original performer didn’t turn up for the video shoot.
Baba Harare didn’t waste time.
He pulled her in on the spot and, suddenly, the make-up artist became the face of the production.
“I was hired as a make-up artist, but ended up being the vixen after the model failed to make it due to some unforeseen circumstances.”
She recalls what Baba Harare told her.
“He said ‘shamwari iwewe ndiwe waakutoita vixen wedu nhasi’.
“I was looking at myself, nditori nemalines mumusoro, ndikati haa mahwani chaiwo.
“Doing the video wasn’t difficult given my background as a former model and vixen, so I took up the offer.
“I wasn’t expecting it to be that viral.”
She further said that preparation wasn’t easy at first.
“Ndakatokumbira Zambia because I didn’t even have anything to wear, I was wearing my uniform yebasa.
“The second day of shooting is when I was fully prepared, hair done and a proper outfit.
For Lucia, the Sisi Viola project wasn’t just a role, it was a transformation, the kind make-up artists dream about.
“It was a huge step towards making my name.
“Working with Baba Harare and his team on the ‘Tsa tsa tsa’ (Sisi Viola) project was so much fun.
“We had people coming out of their houses to come and see us working.”
Lucia said she is an image consultant and make-up artist.
“I help individuals and professionals align their appearance, communication, and personal brand with their goals.
“Through grooming, style, etiquette, and confidence coaching, I help clients create strong first impressions, build credibility, and show up with intention in every space they enter.”
She said that make-up is not only about aesthetics it’s about impact.
“Glam isn’t just for cameras but it’s for how you move, how you speak, and how you are remembered.”
Lucia said she has worked under Jacqueline Mgido as head make-up artist for the song ‘Kuno’.
She also did other major collaborations, including working with Fungisai Mashavave (Makeup) and when Tiffany Haddish visited Zimbabwe.
“I have also had the opportunity to work with many industry leaders in both corporate, arts, and entertainment both as a make-up artist and image consultant,” she said.
Lucia said she also worked with the Zimbabwe College of Music on the Infocus Artist Wealth Lab for both the Harare and Bulawayo events, including an event attended by diplomats.
“These experiences have allowed me to collaborate with a diverse range of industry leaders, creatives, executives, and public figures.
“They strengthen my expertise in personal image, professional presentation, and beauty for high-profile productions and events,” she said.
