CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League side Sheasham are today expected to appear before the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee to answer charges emanating from their unfulfilled fixture against CAPS United at Mandava last month.
The Gweru-based team failed to travel to Zvishavane citing logistical challenges after their Bata Stadium home ground had been contentiously suspended by the PSL just two weeks after its homologation by the ZIFA First Instance Board.
Sheasham had already hosted giants Highlanders at the Gweru facility with no incident when PSL announced that the venue wouldn’t be allowed to stage any more top-tier matches.
The news came at a time when Sheasham were preparing to welcome Makepekepe at Bata prompting them to request explanations from both the PSL and the FIB.
After a busy letter-writing week, PSL offered to pay about US$2 000 towards match expenses which they insisted would be played at Mandava on May 21.
But Sheasham remained adamant and did not travel to a ground they had been renting for their home games in the opening stages of the league marathon.
CAPS United arrived at Mandava and did their warm-up before the match was officially called off due to the unavailability of Sheasham.
And the John Nyikadzino-coached team have been summoned to appear at the PSL DC today where they will know their fate. In the summons seen by The Herald, the disciplinary hearing is set for 5:30pm today at the PSL offices in Harare.
“In terms of the rules and regulations of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, you are alleged to have committed the act(s) of misconduct/offence(s) mentioned below . . . failure to fulfil a scheduled Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against CAPS United FC.
“The referee of the match reported that the home team did not turn up for the match”. “Your club is hereby charged for the breach of the Premier Soccer League Rules and Regulations,” read the summons.
“In terms of Order 31 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League rules and regulations; “It is an act of misconduct on the part of the club where (31.1.8) It fails to fulfil a fixture for which a date and venue has been fixed by the league.
“You are therefore required to appear before the disciplinary committee at the offices of the Premier Soccer League, 36 Midlothian Avenue, Eastlea, Harare, on Tuesday 13th June 2023 at 1730hrs.
“NB: In terms of order, 32, 5, 2 of the new rules and regulations of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League you are hereby required to submit in writing within two (2) days of the date of this notification, your response or answer to the allegations foresaid, failing which you may be called for another disciplinary hearing in respect of such failure”.
