NINE-YEAR-OLD actress, Aria Chigumba, is proving that age is no barrier to success.

She has earned recognition for her performance in the short film Chimu naRanga, marking an impressive breakthrough in Zimbabwe’s growing film industry.

The Avis Junior Academy pupil has quickly become one of the promising child actors to watch after receiving the Outstanding Actor award for her role in the production by filmmaker Jonathan Samkange.

The film premiered on Saturday at Joina City, where Aria’s performance drew praise from audiences and industry stakeholders, earning her one of the event’s biggest honours.

Speaking about her journey into acting, Aria said her passion has always been part of who she is and credited her mother for helping her pursue her dream.

“I was born with a crazy mind. I just loved acting and I thank my mom for introducing me to Spotlight,” she said.

The young actress described winning the Outstanding Actor award as one of the proudest moments of her life, saying it has encouraged her to work even harder.

Despite the growing recognition, Aria says fame is not what drives her.

Instead, she hopes her journey will encourage other children to confidently pursue their talents.

“I don’t wish for fame in the future but I want to be an inspiration to other kids out there that they should go for what they feel they are good at,” she said.

Her inspiring outlook has won admiration from many people, with several social media users praising her maturity and determination at such a young age.

Many also applauded her confidence, saying Zimbabwe’s creative industry needs more young talents who are willing to dream big while remaining focused on making a positive impact.

Behind Aria’s success is the unwavering support of her mother, who has played a key role in nurturing her daughter’s gift.

Speaking after the award, Aria’s mother expressed gratitude for the recognition and said watching her daughter excel in acting has been an emotional and rewarding experience.

“I am grateful for the recognition my daughter is getting. I am proud of her,” she said.

She also urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s natural abilities instead of focusing only on academic achievement.

“Many parents don’t really care for children’s talent, rather they force them to only study,” she said.

“I want to tell them that let your children show their talents because you can never know where that talent will lead them.”

Her message comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s film and creative sectors continue to open doors for young performers, with more productions creating opportunities for emerging talent.

For Aria, the Outstanding Actor award is only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey in front of the camera.

As she continues balancing school with acting, the young star remains determined to sharpen her craft and inspire children across Zimbabwe to believe in themselves, embrace their unique gifts and never be afraid to pursue their dreams.
