Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika, who is set to release his debut album next month, has engaged producers Russell “Russo” Chiradza and Doctor Tawanda to fine-tune his product.
Shiga Shiga initially worked with another local producer but decided to add flavor to his album, “Two Years Later”, through working with the two established producers. Botswana-based Doctor Tawanda is well-known for remixing Alick Macheso’s songs before he worked with a number of local musicians. Russo has been the man behind successful songs from musicians like Suluman Chimbetu, Albert Nyathi, Chiwoniso Maraire and Shinsoman. Shiga Shiga said he chose the producers to give his album a diverse appeal.
“I have known them as good producers for a long time. This album will introduce me to the industry as a solo musician and I have to work with the best producers,” he said. The chanter went solo after a stint with Beverly “Bev” Sibanda’s Sexy Angels after complaining about poor remuneration.
Shiga Shiga got popular as Tongai Moyo’s chanter although he had attrracted some attention as one of the front members of Lubumbashi Stars and New Stars Musica. He also worked for Energy Mutodi after quitting Moyo’s Utakataka Express before joining Bev.
The chanter said he is hopeful his solo project will put him back on the music map.
The album is set to be launched at Private Lounge on February 14 together with raunchy dancer Zoey’s debut album.
