Shining Stars win Mat South Netball fest

ZRP Shining Stars won the Matabeleland South Netball Festival held at St Mary’s High School in Beitbridge at the weekend. Division One and Division Two teams clashed in the two-day tournament. The nine teams which participated in the tournament are Beitbridge Queens, Lutumba, Tripple Stars, Nyami Queens, Bishop Stars, Vumbachikwe, Beitbridge Mighty Queens and Matshiloni.

The tournament was played in a round robin format and ZRP Shining Stars who won the tournament did not concede defeat throughout the tournament and amassed the maximum16 points.

Beitbridge Mighty Queens were runners-up on 15 with one loss and a draw.
Vumbachikwe were on 12 points while Matshiloni anchored the table after they failed to collect a single point. ZRP Shining Stars player Rejoice Kombani was crowned player of the tournament while her teammate Chengete Zhou was top goal scorer with 93.

Blessing Manyeruse of Nyami Queens was best defender while Tripple Stars player Michelle Banda was best midfielder.
Provincial organising secretary Lylos Ndlovu said there was stiff competition.

The tournament was supposed to mark the end of the season but games are still going on after some teams failed to fulfil their league fixtures.

In the Bulawayo Netball League, high-flying Ntutu Sparrows continued with their unbeaten run taking it to 22 games as they thrashed Ntabazinduna Prison 70-13 over the weekend.

Ntutu Sparrows have amassed 66 points.
Railstars beat Lobengula Queens 45-10 as resurgent Jumbo Queens beat Unit Fairbridge 28-22 while Mighty Queens thrashed relegation threatened Kensington 62-7

Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Junior Netball League enters its second week with teams from different schools playing against each other at Emakhandeni Primary School this afternoon.

Mgoqo and Inkanyezi Primary School have already set an early pace as they lead the standings with six points each after winning all their first round fixtures.
