Shooting tourney ends

THE 2015 curtain will come down on the Chief of Staff All-Comers Shoot at Cleveland Rifle Range today amid calls for participating teams to field new shootists to improve the competition.

The shooting extravaganza, which draws participants from all the uniformed forces — Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic Police and Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services — and non-uniformed teams, got underway last Friday.

The event was officially opened by Brigadier General Ronnie Mutizhe who said this year’s shoot was bigger due to the inclusion of more teams from both uniformed and non-uniformed teams affiliated to the National Rifle Association of Zimbabwe.

“Let me hasten to say that seasoned firers from uniformed forces, who have consecutively participated for two or three seasons during the previous Chief of Staff All-Comers Shoot and Commander ZNA Skill At Arms Meeting respectively, have been retired from participating during this year’s shooting competitions.

“The restriction is meant to promote the injection of new firers during our shooting competitions.

“I hope and trust that such a noble arrangement will continue to usher more young and competent new firers in our future shooting events.

“The primary aim and objective of this competition is to provide an opportunity for competitive training as well as gauge the level of shooting standards throughout the uniformed forces.”
