Shop burnt in raging fire

ILLEGAL gold panners in Odzi township last night stampeded and looted property worth thousands of dollars from a burning warehouse-cum-store that belongs to popular businessman Mr Phillip Masamvu.

This was after the building had caught fire.

The building belongs to Farm and City Centre which is a subsidiary of CFI Holdings. The fire started around 8pm but by the time the fire brigade arrived from Mutare, which is about 40 kilometres away, almost everything had been burnt to ashes.

While the cause of the fire was not yet established, workers from the shop suspected that it could have been caused by an electrical fault in the hardware store.
